Andy Johnson says he can’t wait to start coaching Crystal Palace’s youngsters after rejoining the club he made his name at on a free transfer.

Johnson was a prolific striker during his previous spell with the Eagles, becoming a full England international in SE25 before joining Everton in 2006 for £8.5m.

Now aged 33, he has returned to Selhurst Park as a free agent following his summer release from QPR and will help out with the club’s kids, as well as providing plenty of Premier League experience to the first team squad.

He told cpfc.co.uk: “I am delighted to be coming back to a club that I love and have a real soft spot for.

“I would like to thank the gaffer and the chairman for giving me this opportunity and I am looking forward to helping this football club have continued success in the Premier League.

“I have also been given an opportunity to help the youngsters in a coaching capacity, something I am really looking forward to getting involved in.”
