Bob Peeters isn’t sure yet whether Charlton will bring in any new players before Saturday’s trip to Brighton.

The Addicks have until Monday to strengthen their squad and remain in the hunt to snap up a new striker, with 22-year-old Tours forward Andy Delort still the main target.

Peeters was asked if things could happen ahead of this weekend’s away match at the Seagulls, although the head coach remained non-committal on that suggestion.

“I don’t know,” the Belgian said.

“We try to do the business before the deadline, that’s the most important thing, but we are working on certain things and it’s in progress.

“It’s never easy to sign a player because most of the time they’re interested but sometimes you need to find a deal between two clubs and that’s the hardest part so we will see.

“Now I’m focusing on the people who are here and we will see what we can do.

“I’m already happy with the squad we have, except that if you go over the long term I think we need some more bodies because after the international break again we have a lot of games.

“You go from game to game and at this moment everyone is fit and well, but if you’re going to be struggling with suspensions and people who aren’t fit I think we’re going to need a lot of bodies.”

Charlton can still add new players on loan from next month and although this always remains an option, ideally Peeters would like to get everything done by Monday.

He explained: “We still have the loan market but if we want to bring in players then normally we try to sign them permanently.

“Sometimes you need to avoid risks and get players on loan so we will see what happens.

“I’m focussing on Brighton now and people are working behind the scenes to try to clinch everything and then we will see by Monday how far we get.”

Meanwhile, keeper Stephen Henderson is edging closer to a first team return after missing the previous three games with an injury sustained in the 2-1 win over Wigan on August 16.

Peeters added: “Stephen trained today with the squad, he’s going to train tomorrow and then we will see whether he travels or not to Brighton.”

Charlton have no other injury concerns ahead of the Brighton game.
