Charlton striker George Tucudean has asked for his team-mates to repeat their 2-1 pre-season performance over Portsmouth in Saturday’s opening Championship fixture at Brentford.

The Romanian scored the winner at Fratton Park as the Addicks signed off their pre-season campaign with a morale boosting success on the south coast.

And summer addition Tucudean, who joined from Standard Liege on a three-year deal last month, is hoping for a similar outcome this weekend at Griffin Park.

He said: “When you are scoring and the team is winning of course it’s good.

“We have to play like today, we have to win.

“It doesn’t matter how, but we have to win for our fans and for us to stay up in the Championship.

“Every game in this league is tough and we will have to take each match by match.”

The 23-year-old combined well up-front with fellow summer signing Igor Vetokele, who was also on the scoresheet with a stunning opener.

However, Tucudean insists he is not too concerned who gets to start up front so long as Charlton achieve victory.

He admitted: “His goal was nicer than mine, it was a very nice goal. It was the second time we have played together, the first from the beginning of the match) and we help each other on the field.

“It doesn’t matter who is playing if the team wins.

“Me, Igor, the other strikers - we just have to win.”

Tucudean revealed he is enjoying spending time with his new team-mates and how his connection with them is improving all the time.

He explained: “It was difficult at the beginning but now it is fine.

“Every day the relationship is getting better.

“Now I know what they want from me and know how they are playing.”

Tucudean concluded by stating how he has been impressed with manager Bob Peeters who he described as a “good coach”.

“Yoni Buyens told me when I came here that he (Peeters) is trying to play nice football by putting the ball down on the ground and pass the ball and we are getting to where we want to be.”
