Nicky Bailey admits he would be more than happy to be handed the Millwall captaincy - before assuring fans it wouldn’t change his game.

Lions boss Ian Holloway has hinted Bailey could well be the new skipper this season, although the midfielder insisted he is more focused on just staying fit.

He said: “If he picks me I’ll be happy to do it, but if not there is a lot of other lads who would want to do it as well.

“Whoever gets it surely will do a good job.

“I’ll always talk, it’s the way that I play.

“If I was captain it would be an added bonus.”

Bailey suffered a back problem which disrupted his involvement for long periods in his debut campaign at The Den, although he believes that is all behind him now.

He said: “I had a freak injury last year.

“Slipping a disc in my back was annoying.

“Hopefully I’ll play a lot more this year and we will do a lot better.

“When I went to see the doctor he told me I had a few issues with my back, and when it slipped it was one of those things.

“So I’m keeping on top of it and looking after myself. Hopefully it stays fine.”
