Charlton, Millwall and Crystal Palace have produced mixed results in a survey to discover which is the best away day experience for supporters.

Last season a total of 5,308 travelling fans from different teams were asked to rate all of the 92 Premier League and Football League clubs by the Football Supporters’ Federation.

A day at The Valley was the most enjoyable of our three sides, with opposing fans giving it a rating out of 10 of 6.55 ahead of Millwall (5.29) and Crystal Palace (4.79).

The Eagles’ figures were actually the lowest in the Premier League, with Charlton ranking 14th in the Championship above the Lions in 19th.

Unsurprisingly the top three sides in the Championship for the ultimate away day out are clubs with a recent Premier League pedigree - Wigan (7.92), Reading (7.54) and Blackburn (7.37).

Overall Plymouth Argyle (8.33) were considered the best of all 92 clubs with Gillingham (3.69) the worst.

The most important factors when deciding to attend an away match in percentage terms were distance of travel (44%), time/day of kick-off (42.6%) and price of a match ticket (40.4%).

Likelihood of victory (3.9%) was the least important consideration ahead of other activities around the match (5.2%) and level of opposition (6.5%).
