Dartford saloon car racer Brett Lidsey secured his first podium of the 2014 Michelin Clio Cup Race Series campaign at Donington Park on Saturday.

Lidsey produced a superb drive through to third position from ninth on the grid on his first ever competitive visit to the Leicestershire track.

Driving for 20Ten Racing, the former privateer put together an excellent opening lap to climb into fifth place and when contact occurred at the Craner Curves on the third tour between Andy Jordan (Bridgnorth) and Jeff Smith (Wellingborough), the Dartford man swept through.

Under increasing pressure from series front-runner Luke Herbert (Chichester) as the race wore on, Lidsey managed to keep his rival at bay to post a richly deserved third place result.

“The podium was unexpected”, said a delighted Lidsey.

“It’s my first time racing at Donington so I was a bit nervous to say the least not knowing the track as well as the other boys.

“Progression is the key and that’s what we’ve achieved.

“I’m really happy, big thanks to the team.”

Unfortunately for the Kent driver, round six on Sunday didn’t bear fruit when contact from a rival at the chicane on lap nine knocked him into retirement.

Rounds seven and eight of the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series and Road Series will take place over the weekend of July 26 and 27 at Lidsey’s home track, Brands Hatch.
