The South London & Kent Pool Alliance summer season got underway this week and the league's newest venue, Eltham Terrace, which boasts four teams, all got off to a winning start, with some big wins amongst them.

The biggest of these came in Tier Two West, with Eltham Terrace Rack Pack storming to a 3-0 in sets and 14-1 in frames victory over Royal Oak Addicks.

It didn't help that the Addicks only arrived with four players but the Rack Pack were in awesome form with Alex Thompson, Chris Unwin and Miro Cujic each winning their three frames and Steve Unwin was also unbeaten in his two frames.

With a result like that the Rack Pack would have thought they'd have topped the first week league table but Eltham Terrace Rovers matched their score against Pickwick Academicals.

It was a long night for the Academicals as they didn't win their first frame until the twelfth of the match, although they did have their chances before that but Rovers were rampant in punishing their mistakes.

Lee Osborn, Rob Hearn, Ryan Francis and Paul Dawson all won three frames each, with Darren Porter the blot on the copybook.

In the other game from the division O'Dowds A lost in sets 2-1 to Lord Clyde but managed to get more frames overall by 8 frames to 7, giving each team two points.

Lord Clyde started the match off the best, winning the first three frames to take the set but Clive Forrest and Kerry Wyatt brought it back to 3-2.

The second set went the same way as the first, with Lord Clyde winning the first three frames, including James Fickling's second win of the night and Forrest and Wyatt bringing it back to 3-2.

It looked like the third set was going the same way as Martin Luff won his third frame of the night for the Clyde but Alan Dolan and Les Ryan won a frame each, before Forrest and Wyatt made it three wins each to take the final set 4-1.

Over in Tier Two East Eltham Terrace Nuthouse almost matched the scores of their Tier Two West neighbours but could only manage a 3-0 & 13-2 victory over White Hart.

Ian Cruwys won the second frame for White Hart but they didn't win another until the penultimate frame, which was Cruwys again to finish on two out of three for the night.

In between that Aaron Shephard, Shaun Shephard, Shane O'Reilly, Ben McIntosh and Dave Sparey all won two out of two and Craig Jones and Julie Lancaster both won their only frame, as Captain Jones had nine players to pick from for the first time ever.

O'Dowds Flyers got off to just that as they took the first set, 4-1 against Bellegrove Social Club B.

The next two sets were a bit closer but the Flyers still won both by 3 frames to 2 to win the match 3-0 in sets and 10-5 in frames, with Alex Dobbins and Connor Hewson winning two frames each.

There was a battle at the Glenmore, as the venue's two teams, Glenmore Arms II and A faced each other and it was the A team that won the first set 4-1, with Dean Greaney-Parr performing a break and dish in the fifth frame.

That score was reversed in the second set, making it 5 all, with Greaney-Parr the only winner for the A team.

The final set also finished 4-1, making the A team the victors, 2-1 in sets and 9-6 in frames and man of the match Greaney-Parr performed a 7-baller in this set.

Other notable performances came from Alan Rothwell, winning two of his three frames and new boys Jatinder Phlora, Tony Stevens and David Holpin who all won one of their two frames.

Eltham Terrace's representatives in the SLKPA Elite League are Eltham Terrace Club A and they upheld the club's winning streak on the night by beating Pickwick 2-1 in sets and 9-6 in frames.

The Pickwick struggled all night with little luck but Eltham Terrace played well for their win, with Danny Foley, Dan Heinink and Paul Shrimpton each winning their two frames but Pickwick's Martin Storey went one better in taking all three of his frames.

Early league leaders are Rileys Rebels, who took all nine of their players to North Heath Social Club and  came away with all three sets, winning them 3-2 4-1 4-1, making the overall score 3-0 & 11-4.

Remarkably there were six players unbeaten on the night, with Trevor Biggs, Louis Wilbourne, Declan Kelly, Paul Elford and Dayle Stork all winning their two frames and Peter Wells his only frame.

Shot of the night went to Elford, who after clearing all his reds, snookered himself on the black but he came off the back cushion and cut it into the right middle pocket.

Just behind them are Bellegrove who beat Foots Cray Social Club Rugrats 3-0 in sets and 10-5 in frames.

The winter season champions, O'Connors got off to a good start against newly promoted Royal Oak but only managed a 2-1 sets win despite winning 11-4 in frames.

John Kinsville deserves a special mention as he won half of the Oaks four frames.
