Cray’s final game in the Isthmian Premier ended in a 2-1 defeat against an Enfield Town side who needed to win to secure safety.

The visitors began very much on the front foot and Jamie Richards had an effort cleared off the line.

But against the run of play it was Cray who took the lead in the 10th minute when Paul Vines tucked home a fine finish from Alex Stavrinou’s pass. Cesc Fakino’s lob was pushed onto the bar and over by Enfield keeper James Chalk, who then left the field through injury.

Corey Whitely missed a great chance to level for Enfield when he dragged his shot wide but within a minute it was all square as Jordan Lockie hit a fine shot into the top left corner from a tight angle.

Enfield showed a lot more urgency in the second period, with Darren Behcet in the Cray goal having to save well from both Whitely and Liam Hope.

The game was becoming bogged down when Enfield scored their winner on 74 minutes as Ryan Doyle popped up with a decent strike through a crowd of players just inside the box.

Parity was almost restored as Lockie nearly diverted Duane Ofon-Acheampong’s cross into his own goal but the ball went just wide for a corner.

But in the last minute the Wands were reduced to ten-men when Max Fitzgerald was sent off for a second bookable offence.
