Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis rejected calls for him to be named manager of the season, claiming the Eagles’ Premier League survival was a team effort.

When Pulis took over the reins in November, Palace were wallowing at the foot of the table.

However, since then, the Eagles have soared out of the relegation zone to the promise land of safety, and with room to spare.

But Pulis, who has never been relegated as a manager, would not accept the plaudits.

“This is not about individuals, it is about everyone involved in the football club,” he said.

“People have to work together to achieve their goals, and I don’t just mean the 11 players on the pitch.

"Individuals cannot win games, but as a collective, they can.

“Everyone has to push in the same direction – I am proud of our achievements as a club.”

He added: “But it is vital Crystal Palace stay in the Premier League for the next three or even four years.

“They must establish themselves as a top-flight team and then they can build on that base.

“For as good as we’ve been this year, we must do better next year. And that goes for the fans as well.”
