Shooters Hill remain entrenched in the Kent One relegation zone after losing 28-21 to Southwark Lancers.

The visitors were caught on the back foot as Shoots set off apace downhill.

Scrum half Harry Barham ran 40m to put Shoots on the opposition three metre line.

Pat Beale set off from a penalty scrum to pass to Colin who scored in the corner for Peter Deady to convert.

Shoots’ front row won three put ins in a row but failed to capitalise despite another Barham break.

Southwark came into the game, their backs showing great pace and skill.

They slotted a penalty and ran in two converted tries and two more penalties to sit 23-7 up at half-time.

Centre Danny O’Dwyer handed off two tacklers with style and Shoots got over the line without being able to ground the ball.

John Garrett put in a long relieving kick giving Shoots a chance to shine.

Barham was successfully forced over after which Beale found a gap and Garrett converted at 21-23.

Two penalties put Lancers in a position to slot a penalty and despite showing great determination to the end, Shoots closed the season in the relegation zone.
