Charlton beat Yeovil 3-2 at The Valley last night and head coach Jose Riga revealed it was the mental resilience of his side which impressed him the most.
Astrit Ajdarevic opened the scoring for the Addicks before Joel Grant equalized almost immediately for the visitors.
Goals from Dorian Dervite and Marvin Sordell looked to have won the points for Charlton just after the break but Kieffer Moore’s 74th minute strike set up a nervy finish.
“We might not have the best players but we must have the best team in terms of what they have shown since I have been here,” said Riga.
“They showed today that it’s not just technically and physically we are strong but also mentally.”
Despite the win, however, Riga is still feels the relegation battle will continue until the last day of the season.
Results elsewhere on the night mean Charlton sit just one point behind 20th-placed Blackpool and two points behind Birmingham and Doncaster in 19th and 18th respectively.
The Belgian added: “Results went for us this evening and for me it is a good thing to have more teams in the battle for relegation.
“Birmingham and Blackpool are now involved and we still have some games in hand.
“But as I always say to my players it is dependent on us, not other teams.”
Last night also saw Charlton hit three goals in a league game for the first time since Boxing Day.
And although the Addicks remain the Championship’s lowest scorers, Riga believes they can now build on the attacking performance.
“I said before the game that scoring was something we had to move a step forward with,” he said.
“We have had a lot of clean sheets and now we do not have to struggle with this idea that we cannot score.
“But we have to do both – keep clean sheets and score goals.”
