Jose Riga is loving life managing Charlton but is yet to commit his long-term future to the club.

The head coach has been handed the brief of keeping the Addicks up and saw his side win 3-2 over Yeovil at The Valley on Tuesday, leaving them two points and one place above the relegation zone with two games in hand.

After the game the Belgian admitted he is enjoying his time in the Championship, but wouldn’t be drawn on whether he would remain in SE7.

“It is too early to say if I will stay but I must say my experience until now - and not just because we won today but because of the atmosphere – has been amazing,” said Riga.

“The people, the fans, the pitches, the stadiums and the teams – everything is here.

“For sure I am enjoying my time and I hope I can say the same at the end.”

Tuesday’s triumph over Yeovil was Riga’s ninth game in charge and during his tenure the Addicks have been the ninth best team in the league.

And after being impressed by the standard of the league, the 56-year-old manager says avoiding relegation would equal his greatest achievements as manager.

Riga explained: “I knew the Championship was a very good competition and a very high level but sometimes I am certainly surprised by it.

“It is a real competition in the whole sense of the word and for a coach it is certainly good when you win.

“This would be the same (level of achievement) as any promotion for me because it is so short-term.

“I know the importance of the mission and when I said yes to it, it was because I believed I could do it but it’s not yet done.”
