Dorian Dervite has opened discussions on signing a new contract with Charlton.

The defender, who netted Charlton’s second goal in last night’s 3-2 win over Yeovil, confirmed he had held talks with non-executive chairman Richard Murray last week.

And Dervite, who has become a mainstay under new boss Jose Riga, admitted he would love to continue plying his trade in SE7.

He said: “I would be more than happy to stay here and hopefully we can get it signed.

“I have to see a few things and then hopefully I can sign a long-term contract here.

“I was happy before (Riga’s arrival) and I wasn’t playing as much as when the new gaffer came in.”

Dervite did admit, though, he has more belief and confidence playing under Chris Powell’s successor.

He added: “I am the kind of player that when I know I have got the trust of the manager, I give even more.

“I have always been like that since I was young and that is going well at the moment.

“The fact that he (Riga) speaks French makes us a bit closer and that give me a bit more confidence.

“I think everyone likes to play under him.

“He gives us a lot of confidence and I think you can see that from the last games.

“I am happy for myself and the team.”

Last night’s encounter was Charlton’s third consecutive dose of two matches per week, a sequence set to continue until the end of the season.

Dervite admitted it is tough on the legs, but praised Charlton’s backroom staff for preparing the squad for every match.

He said: “The players that have played all the games are a bit tired but the staff and the coaches know what is right for us to be as fit as possible.

“It is more of a mental thing too.

“You have to get ready every three days and be ready at your top, so for me that is the most difficult thing.

“Tonight we won without looking too tired and we are happy with the way we are playing at the moment.

“It was like a six-point game, this one, so we are very happy.”
