Charlton gave their Championship survival hopes a huge shot in the arm with a 3-2 home triumph over fellow strugglers Yeovil Town.

Astrit Ajdarevic gave the Addicks a dream tenth minute start but Liam Davis put the visitors back on terms just two minutes later.

Dorian Dervite and Marvin Sordell put the hosts into a commanding position within six minutes of the second half resuming.

And even though substitute Kieffer Moore set up a tense finale by pulling one back on 74 minutes, Charlton held on to secure the points against a drop rival.

Addicks boss Jose Riga made a trio of changes with Lawrie Wilson injured, Callum Harriott dropped to the bench and no place at all in the matchday squad for Simon Church.

That meant Michael Morrison switched to right-back as Richard Wood came in to partner Dervite at the heart of the defence.

Up front there were recalls for Reza and Sordell.

News Shopper: Diego Poyet

Dervite was well off target with a long range free-kick in the seventh minute which skipper Johnnie Jackson had teed the ball into his path.

But the hosts didn’t have long to wait to get their noses in front as three minutes later Morrison won a header and played in Ajdarevic, whose low shot from outside the box flew past the outstretched Chris Dunn.

However, the Addicks immediately shot themselves in the foot as the visitors quickly drew level, Liam Davis’ shot taking a horrible deflection off Wood on its way to beating Hamer.

And Yeovil almost took the lead when the home defence was carved open all too easily, only for James Hayter to place a low shot straight at Hamer from six yards.

Reza should have done better after a good dummy from Ajdarevic from Rhoys Wiggins’ delivery presented him with an opportunity inside the area but his tame effort was easily saved by Dunn.

Dervite saw a 25 yard attempt fly wide while at the other end Joe Ralls’ volley went agonisingly over Hamer’s bar.

The keeper was called into action to deny Ralls on 26 minutes later and Yeovil almost took the lead direct from Tom Lawrence’s corner which hit the woodwork.

Dunn had a busy minute, firstly parrying out Ajdarevic’s 20 yard drive before the danger was hacked clear and then doing well to put behind Sordell’s shot after the striker had burst through.

And Charlton were only denied an interval advantage in stoppage time as Shane Duffy cleared Wood’s header off the line with Dunn beaten.

Joel Grant saw a shot go over the bar inside the opening minute but it was Charlton who quickly restored their lead as Jackson’s header was headed home by Dervite.

And two quickly became three, Diego Poyet setting Reza free down the right and his cross in was spilled by Dunn, allowing Sordell to tap home the simplest of goals.

News Shopper: Ben Hamer makes a save

That settled the Addicks down as they grew in confidence the two-goal cushion provided them.

Jackson’s free-kick into the danger zone midway through the second half had to be punched clear by Dunn under pressure from Reza.

Ajdarevic’s ambitious shot on the turn from 35 yards went harmlessly behind but despite looking in command, Charlton gifted the visitors a route back into the game, substitute Moore taking advantage of some horrendous defending to place a shot into an empty net.

But despite some decent pressure, Hamer was never really tested by the visitors as the clock ticked down and Charlton held on for a vital three points.
