Dorian Dervite’s dramatic stoppage time header secured a first win for new manager Jose Riga tonight against AFC Bournemouth and gave a huge boost to Charlton’s survival bid.

The game appeared to be heading for a third straight 0-0 under Riga’s stewardship until Dervite popped up at the death to convert Johnnie Jackson’s corner.

There were three changes from the side which drew 0-0 at Millwall on Saturday as Danny Green, Jordan Cousins and Simon Church came in for Bradley Pritchard and Marvin Sordell, who were both on the bench, with Astrit Ajdarevic ruled out through injury.

Also among the subs was Jon Obika, who returned to SE7 for a second loan spell from Spurs yesterday.

Former Addicks striker Yann Kermorgant was on the bench for the Cherries in his first return to the club since leaving on deadline day.

Bournemouth went straight on the attack and the move ended with Marc Pugh’s 35 yard shot flying over Ben Hamer’s bar inside the opening 30 seconds.

Pugh’s fifth minute dipping volley produced a save from the Charlton keeper while a completely unmarked Lewis Grabban blazed over from just inside the box after meeting a corner.

Ex-Charlton youngster Harry Arter tested Hamer with a stinging shot, while Rhoys Wiggins did well to block Ryan Fraser’s attempt as the visitors continued to ask all of the early questions.

Andrew Surman’s low pass was just over-played to Grabban and went behind, much to the relief of an exposed Hamer.

It took the hosts 25 minutes to test Lee Camp, Green’s attempt going straight at the visiting stopper, and then Dervite glanced a header just wide from Jackson’s corner 10 minutes later.

Green almost caught Camp out when his cross hit the post, but Charlton made a change four minutes before the break as a limping Callum Harriott made way for Obika.

And the Tottenham loanee almost made an instant impact with a shot on the turn which produced a decent save from Camp.

Obika won a free-kick in a dangerous position 20 yards from goal seven minutes after the restart after Simon Francis went in with a high challenge, but Green’s set piece was poor and never came close to even troubling Camp.

Diego Poyet came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock with a volley from the edge of the area which just landed on the roof of the net.

Kermorgant was finally introduced just before the hour for Eunan O’Kane and Bournemouth soon had a chance as Pugh fired just over.

Green was replaced by Sordell in the 65th minute before free-kick specialist Ian Harte placed an effort off target from 20 yards.

Hamer was almost caught all at sea when Fraser nodded the ball beyond him but he got back on his line to deny substitute Tokelo Rantie’s goal-bound follow up.

Cousins fired over the bar after Obika had done well to create the opportunity but Charlton had a glorious chance to get their noses in front ten minutes from time when Church beat the offside trap only to be denied by Camp and then Jackson’s follow up shot was blocked.

Camp had to palm out Poyet’s 25-yarder as the clock ticked down with Charlton began to up the tempo but that momentum wasn’t helped by Jackson blazing wildly over with an angled shot from a decent position.

Jackson certainly went a lot closer in stoppage time with a free-kick which Camp had to tip behind.

However, it was from the resulting corner Dervite popped up with that late, late winner, just as Jackson himself had done here against QPR recently, to seal the most dramatic of three points.

Just how vital that could prove at the end of what promises to be a long and draining season remains anyone’s guess but let’s hope it makes a big difference.
