Ian Holloway is looking to end a mixed week for Millwall on a high with victory over neighbours Charlton on Saturday.

Both sides go into The Den encounter desperately looking for points to guarantee their Championship safety, with the Addicks bottom of the table and the Lions only three points above them but having played four games more.

Millwall enjoyed a surprise 1-0 success at high-flying Derby last weekend only to follow that up with a solitary goal reverse at fellow strugglers Blackpool in midweek.

But if the Lions can maintain their outstanding record against the Addicks, Holloway admits it will be a useful points return for his side.

He said: “All of the games are tough now, every one of them but if we end up with six out of nine points from the last week then that will have been a good return.

“If we only get three then that won’t be good enough.

“All I care about is trying to beat Charlton at the weekend and if ever there is a game we need to win it is this one because that will take away one of their games in hand.”

Holloway added: “We needed to do that at Blackpool but we didn’t.

“The performance at times was easily what I wanted, the result wasn’t.

“Losing Steve Morison with his neck injury and not scoring those opportunities to regain the momentum was all we needed but unfortunately we ended up suffering a bad result.

“Now we need a better one this weekend. We’ve got the teams who are around us or below us at home and I want them to be scared of playing at The Den, not my players.”

Like opposite number Jose Riga, this will be Ollie’s first experience of a Millwall v Charlton game.

And with Millwall’s biggest crowd of the season expected, the Den chief is keen to utilise the backing of the home supporters.

Holloway explained: “I am aware of the rivalry and I want to beat them.

“There are points up for grabs at the bottom of the table and they are in a battle with us to stay in this division.

“We’ve got to try and do in this game to beat them but I understand how much our fans want to win this one and want them to know I’m 100 percent with them.

“I want our fans to get behind and help us perform and get the right result.

“That’s what we need and a positive result will take away one of their games in hand.”

He added: “I want the fans to everything apart from put the ball in the net, we’ve got to do that and I believe we will because we continue to keep creating chances, it is just about taking them and then being solid.

“I’ve asked the fans to stick with the lads and they have so they don’t have to do anything more other than turn up, give us a rousing reception and make the place a terrifying place to come for any opposition.

“We’ve got all these teams still to come here and I want them to think ‘Oh my God, what a tough place to go that is’ and ‘Wow, what an atmosphere’. That’s what our fans can do for me.”
