John Marquis could be heading for a Den return as Millwall’s striker crisis deepens.

The Lions are currently without the likes of DJ Campbell and Jermaine Easter through injury and now there is a big question mark over Steve Morison after he was forced off with a neck problem in the 1-0 midweek defeat at Blackpool.

Millwall’s physios will tomorrow assess his chances of facing Charlton but he is unlikely to be available and is also certain to miss out against Leeds next weekend under the terms of his loan deal from Elland Road.

Manager Ian Holloway is eager to bring in a target man on loan before Saturday’s south-east London derby, but if that doesn’t happen a recall for Marquis from his loan spell at Northampton looks to be on the cards.

The Den boss told News Shopper: “We will need to see on Friday where Steve Morison is but I’m trying to get somebody else in before Saturday.

“With the injuries we’ve got we are hitting a crisis point now and it is all hands to the pump that we will have someone in.

“I needed to put a centre-half up front the other night at Blackpool so we are desperate for a big man, we really are.

“Steve Morison is a number 10, he isn’t necessarily a number nine.

“He has played really well off a number nine like Grant Holt at Norwich, he floats well, gets out in wider areas and does well in them.

“That’s what we are going to do because we haven’t got a route one, and if I can’t get a big striker in what I’ll do is I’ll bring John Marquis back.

“We’ve got young Aidan O’Brien here as well or I might try one of my central defenders up there.”
