New Charlton head coach Jose Riga has admitted his knowledge of rivals Millwall is limited.

The Belgian will take charge of his second match tomorrow afternoon when the Addicks make their shortest away trip of the season to The Den.

Victory will see Riga’s side leapfrog the Lions in the Championship table, while defeat would leave them six points adrift of their south-east London neighbours.

But although acknowledging he is not fully aware of the rivalry between the two clubs, Chris Powell’s successor hopes to be fully up to speed by the time the game gets underway.

He said: “Everybody is focused on the game and some players have already started speaking about it.

“I know that it is very important, not only because we have to win games and take points but that it is a big derby.

“The first thing that interests me is my team.

“With my team I can do some things, but with the others teams I can do nothing.

“The game is more important, not the story of Millwall.”

Charlton assistant Alex Dyer added he and Damien Matthew will inform Riga just how important Saturday’s fixture is from a supporters’ perspective.

“Between now and the game we will discuss it and come up with answers,” said Dyer.

“I will brief them (Riga and Karel Fraeye) on the reaction between the supporters and the rivalry.

“They already know a bit, but by the time me and Damien Matthew speak to them the will know a lot more.

“We all know what this game means to the football club.”
