STEVE Morison insists people should not write off Millwall’s chances of survival after winning 1-0 away to high-flying Derby County.

The Lions grabbed their second away win of the season thanks to Morison’s 61st minute winner and the on-loan Leeds man is determined to keep Millwall up, and show the doubters he was right to make the switch back to The Den.

Morison said: “People love to write people off don’t they and they like to write Millwall off.

“We’re no worse than teams around us.

“If we keep playing like that we’ll show that we’re better than a few teams in this league.”

He added: “I think it’ll go all the way to the wire for everyone.

“You had Barnsley beating Forest and Doncaster winning.

“It dragged Birmingham and Blackpool into it today.

“You’ve got Charlton at the bottom who have something like eight games in hand.

“I don’t think it’ll be a 56-pointer like last year.

“I think it’ll be around the 40-odd points like it normally is.”

Welsh international Morison’s sixth goal of the season was a vital one as fellow relegation candidates Yeovil and Barnsley both won to stay in touch of the Lions. And the forward feels their results do not diminish Millwall’s achievements at the weekend.

Morison explained: “No, definitely not.

“We’ve been unlucky in recent weeks as we’ve been playing like that and not getting results.

“That’s a testament to our hard work and the manager has been working hard for us and we’ve been working hard for him.

“That’s one for the fans who came today and hopefully we’ll see a few up at Blackpool on Tuesday.

“Nobody expected that.

“It was a definite coupon-buster wasn’t it?

“It’s a great win and three points we needed as everyone else won.”

Millwall travel to Lancashire on Tuesday to face free-falling Blackpool and Morison says he and the team aren’t talking about how many teams could be in the basement scrap.

He said: “We haven’t been talking about it.

“We’ve been concentrating on our performances, how we’re playing, what we’ve been doing.

“We’ve been playing okay and not getting the results.

“All we’ve done is exactly what we’ve been doing.

“If you don’t watch us every week you wouldn’t know that. We’ve been doing that every week but this week we’ve put the chance away and we were pretty comfortable.

“We need to go on a run.

“We need to go on a four, five unbeaten run and you shoot up the table."

Morison continued: “We’ve got a good, happy squad and a manager who believes in us and a manager we believe in.

“If we keep putting the performances in like we did today then results will turn.

“The way the manager works and treats us is why we’ve been doing okay and not too worried about it. He’s happy, we’re happy and we’re enjoying working.”

The Lions’ front-man has 12 games left of his season-long loan and he isn’t focusing on what may come when the season ends.

“People said don’t come back but I did,” he said.

“I came back because I wanted to be part of something than my last year at Millwall.

“It hasn’t panned out that way so far.

“Hopefully, I can play my part from now until the end of the season.

“I do what I want to do at the end of the day.

“Nobody can tell me what I can and can’t do.

“I wanted to come back and that’s what I did.

“I’ve got 12 more games at Millwall – that’s all I’m concentrating at the minute and what happens in the summer happens."
