Bromley only have themselves to blame for dropping two points at Hayes Lane on Saturday against Bath City as the league leaders missed several easy chances to secure victory.

The visitors opened strongly and went in front in the 14th minute when Dan Ball looped a header wide of Bromley keeper Joe Welch from Chris Allen’s free-kick, which had been conceded unnecessarily on the edge of the area.

However, the advantage lasted just six minutes as Bradley Goldberg was in the right place to volley home Jay May’s brilliant knock down from Albert Jarrett’s cross to level the scores.

Danny Waldren and Rob Swaine just failed to get efforts on target and Pierre Joseph-Dubois’ header flew just over as Bromley pressed forward.

Josh Low got clear for the visitors but was denied by the outstretched legs of the advancing Welch.

With half-time approaching, Waldren’s pass put Goldberg through, but the striker was denied by Bath keeper Jason Mellor, who palmed his shot away to safety.

A poor clearance by the custodian went straight to Ali Fuseini, who promptly played in Joseph-Dubois and he stabbed his effort wide of the post.

The second period saw the home side carry on where they had left off and Joe Anderson’s tantalising cross was finger-tipped away from the incoming May by Mellow before Bromley went in front on 51 minutes.

Goldberg played a pass inside to Fuseini, who cleverly lifted a delivery across field to the unmarked Waldren.

Without breaking stride, Waldren volleyed home from 27 yards to leave Mellor clutching fresh air as the effort hit the back of the net.

Bromley should have wrapped the game up on 64 minutes when substitute Brendan Kiernan rounded Mellor, but poor execution of his shot allowed Sekani Simpson to get back and clear off the line.

That miss proved costly as two minute later Kiernan was at fault again by losing possession on the halfway line.

Noah Keats moved forward before releasing Andy Watkins, who wrong-footed Welch for Bath’s equaliser.

May missed a great chance to restore Bromley’s lead on 68 minutes when Kiernan’s cross fell at his feet on the edge of the six-yard box, only for Mellor to get a hand to it.

Bromley’s defence was at sixes and sevens minutes later, though, as substitute Ross Stearn blazed over from close range when it seemed easier to score.

At the other end Kiernan’s cross was knocked out for a corner by a defender with Goldberg closing in.

In a last desperate attempt to clinch maximum points, Nic McDonnell replaced May.

But the substitute had little effect and Bath City will go home much the happier with a share of the spoils they hardly deserved.
