WESTCOMBE Park were beaten 33-13 at Tonbridge Juddians on Saturday, writes Mike Attewell.

Five tries, four conversions, to a try, conversion, and two penalties seems a comfortable margin, although it wasn’t quite like that.

Tonbridge had scored early with a Tom Noott try and a Luke Makris conversion.

Combe then had a lengthy period of territorial advantage but with only an Iain Gordan penalty to show for it.

Five minutes before half-time, the home side’s Lee Campion took a pass at pace and went to the line for an easy Makris conversion and a 14- 3 lead at the break.

Gordan scored a penalty at the start of the second half to give the Orpington side renewed hope, but that was dashed in a devastating ten-minute spell.

A trio of Tondride forwards Tristan Sweden, Tom Nabbs and Mike O’Sullivan got to the line benefiting from sound work down the left flank from their backs.

Makris converted the first two to give the hosts an unassailable 33-6 advantage.

Combe showed spirit to contain them and in the last minute Niki Davies found a gap to cross the line, Gordan converting with the last kick of the game.
