CHRIS Powell will always believe his future lies at The Valley.

The Charlton boss, who is out of contract in the summer, has begun discussions with owner Roland Duchatelet over a new deal and is eager to get it signed.

Powell admits this season has been a dip for the Addicks, but is desperate to guide the club through their difficult period.

The SE7 boss said: “I love this club. I want to remain manager and I want my players and the rest of the staff to think that way.

“I have always seen my future here and I will always think that way unless someone else tells me differently.

“I’ve been given an opportunity here and in my eyes I have taken it.”

Powell added: “As a manager and a player you have your dips, and if this is my dip then I’ll take that because it is never going to be a constant upward curve.

“You want it to be, every manager will tell you that. You go into a season with the intention of building and getting better - otherwise you shouldn’t be there.

“And if this is my dip then I’ll accept that, but I want to come through the other side and I want to come through it at this club.”

Charlton travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Monday evening for their rearranged FA Cup fifth round tie, just over 48 hours after completing this afternoon’s match with QPR.

And Powell is upset with a FIFA ruling which states FA Cup matches should not be contested at the same time as Champions League games.

He said: “I find it strange that many people would not want to watch Manchester United and tune into us instead.

“You play league games the same night, so I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t play that game on the same night as well.

“They haven’t take into account the supporters.

“Our fans will have to go all the way up to Sheffield on a Monday night when we would have had a terrific following on the Saturday.

“We will still have good support, but there won’t be as many.

“They don’t take that into account - and that is totally wrong.”

Powell added: “All they have considered is their own rules and not really how they can bend them and make it more accessible for supporters.

“Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday is tough enough, and Saturday-Monday will test anyone.

“It’s not great but we will get on with it.”
