BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg feels the unpredictable nature of the Conference South meant he was not surprised to see second-placed Eastleigh slip up at Tonbridge Angels last night.

Eastleigh are the Lillywhites’ main rival for promotion to the Conference, but currently trail the Hayes Lane club by 11 points, although they do have three games in hand.

And Goldberg, whose side were also beaten 3-2 at Dorchester at the weekend, says the so-called shock results did not surprise him.

“It wasn’t a shock to me but maybe it was a shock result for our supporters,” said the Bromley boss.

“We don’t underestimate any teams whoever they are, we know how difficult it can be.

“You would have seen that on Monday night with Tonbridge and Eastleigh.

“Why was it a shock result? It can happen.

“Anything can occur in football and any team that you play is capable of beating any other on their day. We know that.

“That is why we go into every game knowing that we can win every game, but also knowing if we are not on our game then we can lose.

“We don’t go into games with a right to win, we have to earn that, and because we are top of the league everyone wants to beat us.”

Goldberg saw his side go down 3-2 at bottom of the table Dorchester at the weekend.

They trailed 2-0 with eight minutes remaining, only to level through Jay May and Louis Dennis, but Dorchester then snatched victory in stoppage time.

“The conditions were awful on Saturday and they adapted better than we did,” said Goldberg.

“Although in the first half we defended relatively well, we gave away a silly free-kick and they punished us with it exceptionally well.

“We also had a few good chances our own and if we had taken them, the story could’ve been very different.

“At half-time we were forced to take Pierre Joseph-Dubois off and we didn’t have that balance that we normally have.

“We were missing Brendan Kiernan as well, who had a groin strain, and we didn’t have our normal shape in the second half that we have had the privilege to have had in most games up until now.

“We conceded because we weren’t as prepared as we normally are, and we showed some good resolve to get back into the game.”

Bromley’s scheduled game at Staines this evening has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch but they are at home to Boreham Wood on Saturday (3pm).
