DESPITE having to come from behind to snatch a late point in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with against Bolton, defender Danny Shittu still feels the result was harsh on the Lions.

Millwall dominated proceedings at The Den but it was fellow strugglers Bolton who took the lead in the 15th minute through a Lukas Jutkiewicz header.

Jutkiewicz then missed from the spot in the 77th minute after Shittu was adjudged to have handled and the Trotters were made to pay five minutes later as Martyn Woolford scored the vital equaliser.

Shittu said: “We are gutted not to have won the game because the football we played today was the best we have played all season.

“For us not to have gone and got three points is gutting but we will take the positives.

“Normally if we go behind in games we lose but we have got the fight in us now and we’re working hard to try and get points for the team.”

It was a second consecutive draw for Millwall, whose midweek trip to Yeovil also ended 1-1.

The Lions have only won one game in their last 12 and lie just four points above the drop zone.

Despite a lack of results since Ian Holloway’s arrival, Shittu feels Millwall are still making positives steps under the former Blackpool manager’s guidance.

He explained: “The management let us know that whether we’re winning or losing, we’ve got to keep playing the way we are and try and get goals.

“The last two games we’ve been unfortunate not to have gone ahead.

“In both we let in a goal and normally we’d crumble, but we’ve been able to keep fighting and keep believing and get a goal.

“The players are gaining confidence and although we’ll make mistakes at times, we’ll still get behind each other and fight to get things right after that.”

Millwall are undergoing a major change in playing style under Holloway and Shittu feels the move is slowly paying off.

He said: “It takes a lot of courage to play like that at The Den in front of the Millwall fans.

“To see the fans get behind us and support us try and bring the ball down and play was great.”
