YANN Kermorgant's superb second half free-kick was the icing on the cake as Charlton dispatched a disappointing Oxford side 3-0.

The first half an hour at the Kassam Stadium led to many people thinking that neither side really fancied a trip to Huddersfield.

But those thoughts were quickly dismissed as Kermorgant took it upon himself to fire Charlton to victory.

The Addicks' top scorer broke the deadlock ten minutes before the break as he finished low past Ryan Clarke following good play from Simon Church.

Clarke managed to get down and get a hand to the Frenchman's effort but he was unable to stop it due to the ferocity of his shot.

Charlton were given some daylight just three minutes later as the Oxford back-line again allowed Church time to create another chance.

This time the Welshman laid the ball across the face of goal with the keeper bearing down on him, allowing Danny Green to tap into an empty net.

Charlton's smash and grab double meant that Oxford were forced into taking long shots having never really got going.

A comeback was never on the cards, though, and the game was finally put to bed just before the hour mark with Kermorgant again finding the back of the net.

The big man brushed himself off after being knocked to the ground by Jake Wight.

He stepped up and unleashed an unstoppable curling effort into the top left hand corner of Clarke's goal.

It was a pleasing win for the travelling Charlton fans and one that ensures that they will be making yet another trip to Huddersfield in a cup competition.
