HAVING lost their previous nine league games, Erith and Belvedere halted the bad run in an uneventful goal-less draw at home to Wroxham.

No game since Boxing Day made the wait longer for the Deres, but manager Chris Cosgrove was aware victory would allow them to leapfrog Wroxham and take them out of the relegation zone.

Sadly, they rarely looked likely to breach the league’s most profligate defence but they can gain some comfort from having recorded their first clean sheet since October, with Reis Boyle commanding at the back.

Chances were few and far between in the first half.

Jamie Miller for the hosts and the Yachtsmen’s Matthew Halliday had unthreatening shots on target before the Deres’ Laurence Collins headed wide when given room from a corner just before the break.

A goalmouth scramble saw the Deres’ impressive James Golding twice clear off the line and Ashley Bourne made a good save from Ross Durrant.

Golding shot just over from the edge of the area for Erith but the visitors came close when Boyle deflected Stephen Drake’s shot narrowly wide.

The Deres could have snatched the win late on when Luke Tanner sent substitute Ryan Flack away, but keeper Robert Juhasz was out quickly and managed to block Flack’s attempt to slip it past him.
