HAVING met for the first time ever at Park View Road in September, Welling visited Aldershot Town between their two derbies with Dartford.

Lee Clarke's absence meant that Welling needed to reshuffle.

Blaine Hudson returned from suspension and took up his central defensive position with Doug Bergqvist moving into a defensive midfield role.

Ten yellows and one red card in a game that was not dirty suggests the game was officiated by an excessively zealous referee.

Jake Goodman had an early opportunity when meeting Joe Oastler's header from a corner but he nodded wide from close range.

Brett Williams then scuffed a shot wide.

Lee Butcher was forced into a near post save from Jordan Roberts and the Aldershot striker was hurried out of controlling the rebound.

Hudson was caught by a nasty late tackle but was able to run it off after treatment.

Ross Lafayette recorded Welling's first effort at goal but shot well over from 25 yards.

Referee Wayne Barratt made his first strange decision when cautioning Hudson for an alleged obstruction and then compounded his eccentricity by awarding a direct free kick.

Fortunately for Welling, it came to nothing. Jamie Day's name soon followed for a wild challenge on Luke Young.

Having survived the early pressure, Welling took the sting out of the game and Lafayette headed wide from a Day free kick before the interval.

After the restart Hudson came close when heading Welling's first corner wide from an excellent Day delivery.

Chris Barker then flattened Lafayette but escaped a booking.

Day almost made him pay, however, with a free kick round the wall that Glen Morris did brilliantly to turn away for a corner.

Aldershot's escape was short-lived, however.

Day's corner was met by Lafayette's header that sneaked between Morris and a defender inside the far post.

Williams was cautioned for an accumulation of fouls in frustration at the way Welling were controlling the game before the referee was given the option to make a decision to turn the game.

A dangerous cross into the box resulted in a collision between Hudson and Oastler in which the Shots player was left grounded in the goal.

A penalty was awarded and to make matters worse for Welling, Hudson was shown a second yellow and dismissed.

Williams converted by sending Butcher the wrong way.

Manny Oyeleke and Lafayette were booked for a clash following the former's foul on the Welling striker and Bergqvist followed soon after.

Twelve minutes remained when the Shots went ahead.

Millwall loanee Aiden O'Brien was given room to unleash a shot that took a horrible deflection, wrong-footing Butcher.

Although he managed to change the direction of his dive, he was unable to keep it out.

Connor McLaren and Aristide Bassele came on for Baily Cargill and Harry Beautyman.

Jordan Roberts was cautioned for a foul on Kurtis Guthrie who was replaced immediately by Luis Cumbers.

Fraser Franks' name was then added to the mounting list in the referee's notebook.

Adam Mekki's free kick was met by the head of O'Brien to complete Welling's misery with two minutes left on the clock.
