ERITH & District Swimming Club hosted the third and final round of the National Arena League at the weekend.

Having won the two previous rounds, the team were keen to continue their winning ways and secure promotion back to Division One for 2014. This round saw a more even distribution of points, making the gala very close indeed.

Erith had their fortunes reversed in an ironic turn of fate from their performance in round two, where they had won by six points, by coming second by six points to a strong Maidstone team.

However, Erith fought hard all the way to the end and achieved their goal by gaining promotion back into Division One along with Maidstone and Herne Bay.

In total Erith attained 15 wins, 10 second, and 12 third place finishes, with no disqualifications.

Erith’s individual winners of the night were: Ruby Verge (2), Holly Fryett (2), Dan Bassett, George Leigh, Michael Cook, Danielle Hills, George Hills and James Vick.

Relay winners were: girls’ U13 medley - Verge, Danielle Hills, Georgia Burdett and Madison Retour; boys’ U13 freestyle - Lewis Hayes, Tom Shea, Alex Song and George Hills; women’s open freestyle - Jade Hughes, Fryett, Sarah Shattock-Gomez, Ashton Middleton, Georgia Hills and Verge; men’s open medley and freestyle - Cook, Paul Nicholls, Bassett, Leigh, Dan Wesley and Vick.

Erith also recorded 12 personal bests from individuals and relay lead-off legs by Frankie Hutchinson (3), Fred Corder, Connor Parker, Ben Wilding, Megan Cave, Ryan Hayes, Leigh, George Hills, Wesley and Lewis Hayes.

Man of the Match went to Corder after being called in on the day to swim and smashing his 50m butterfly time by almost two seconds in two weeks.

Olivia Maunders delivered swim of the day with an inspiring 100m breaststroke, which saw her battle the opposition all the way to the end but narrowly missing the win by the closest of margins 0.01s.
