GRANT Basey has decided to end his spell with Ebbsfleet United in order to re-assess his career.

Basey had been with the Conference South promotion hopefuls since October, but his brief spell at Stonebridge Road was overshadowed by injury and he was largely restricted to appearances on the bench.

The 25-year-old, who broke into the Charlton first team under Alan Pardew in 2007, will now pursue other interests and it isn’t clear if he intends to resume playing the game in the future.

Fleet chief Steve Brown told ebbsfleetunited.co.uk: “Grant came to us with every intention of regaining full fitness to push for a contract and a starting place.

“Grant’s attitude has been first class but he’s decided to take time out to think about his long-term future.

“We all wish him well and he knows he is welcome here at Stonebridge Road should he want to come back.”
