VIGO saw off Shooters Hill thanks to some slick work in the backs, met with a great forward revival by the hosts.
Shoots No 8 Pat Beale started by stealing ball but a long line kick by visitors Vigo put them in a position to slot a penalty.
A Shoots penalty saw backs Peter Deady and Gareth Cross set off into the opposition half, but mistakes saw Vigo work back for a penalty in front. Some great drives by Shoots disrupted the visiting pack and a penalty saw the hosts poised metres from the line before Vigo cleared with another long kick.
A missed Shoots penalty saw the half finish at 0-6.
Shooters Hill fought their way into the opposition 22 after the break, enabling fly half Edmar Vinluan to slot a rare drop goal.
They continued to push Vigo back but hopes of a victory faded as the Villagers’ bigger forwards ran well in the loose and the backs sped away on the right for Welby to touch down, although the conversion was missed.
