MILLWALL defender Alan Dunne has heaped praise on keeper David Forde after another fine display in Saturday’s victory over Wigan.

Forde continues to impress and has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent weeks with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international pulled off one of the saves of the season in the final minute to deny Leon Barnett and help the Lions record a much-needed 2-1 success in front of national boss Martin O’Neill.

While O’Neill had left before the final whistle, Dunne was quick to point out afterwards Milwall’s number one can definitely play at a higher level.

“I thought it was in,” the full-back said of Forde’s last-gasp stop which denied Barnett and Wigan a share of the spoils.

“He did really well to get there and it was a fantastic save.

“That just shows what quality form he has been in.

“He is a big player for us on and off the field, he is a big character in the dressing room.

“He is a Millwall type of player and they are hard to get hold of.

“It would be disappointing to let him leave, but I think he can play at the next level.”

Dunne himself has been in and out of the Lions side this season, with Steve Lomas bringing in a number of right-backs.

Now back in the team, the long-serving defender knows it is now up to him to keep his place and prove he is best right-back at the club.

“Over the years numerous right-backs have been brought to the club with different managers and I understand that,” Dunne said.

“I still think and feel I am the best right-back at the club.

“If you want to steady the ship a little bit I think I am in position to fill in.

“I’m not going to play every game until the end of the season, but you need cover.”
