WESTCOMBE Park were finally edged out by Hertford in an entertaining game which saw the lead swing back and forth.

Hertford raced away to an early 21-point advantage within a quarter of an hour as tries from John Corcoran, Stuart Smart, and Byron Odell were all converted by Jack Mann.

Combe regained their composure, and with Hertford in a generous mood to give away kickable penalties, clawed their way back to 15-21 thanks to the reliable boot of Iain Gordon.

A penalty from Mann closed the half at 15-24 and left the Orpington side with a lot to do.

Combe duly rose to the challenge with tries from Trent Nattrass and Bryan Young within 10 minutes of the restart.

Gordon converted one and Combe crept into the lead 27-24, only for the visitors to hit back with another score from full-back Smart.

With five minutes left the lead changed hands again as Ben Hough went over for hosts Combe.

The visitors went close with a penalty effort which drifted wide before a further penalty went for the lineout and drive to touch down in the corner on the stroke of full-time for what proved to be the winning score.
