CAMERON Stewart admits he would like to extend his loan spell at Charlton from Hull City until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old winger hooked up with the Addicks on transfer deadline day in a temporary deal which is set to expire in January.

But the former Manchester United trainee is already keen to stay in SE7 for a while longer, with the opportunity to continue his development under Valley boss Chris Powell a huge attraction.

Stewart said: “At the moment I’m only on loan, but obviously while I’ve been working under Chris Powell it’s been great for me and I’ve really enjoyed it. He’s a great manager.

“I think for Charlton to get him to stay as long as they can is a great thing for them and a great thing for the gaffer.

“He’s probably enjoying working here and I think I enjoy it.

“I know all the players enjoy working under him, so I think if he does extend his deal it will be great for everyone and great for himself.”

He added: “I’m happy here at the moment, I’m playing and I’m really enjoying working under the gaffer and all the coaching staff really.

“I think they’ve helped me and I’m back fit again and it’s where I’ve wanted to be for the last year, so I’m really enjoying it.

“If the opportunity comes to extend my loan to the end of the season then I’d be happy to do that.”

Stewart played 87 minutes of Saturday’s defeat at QPR before being replaced by Marvin Sordell.

The visitors were undone by Charlie Austin’s spectacular strike five minutes before the interval, but even though the final score was only 1-0 the winger accepted Charlton were not at the races at Loftus Road.

He explained: “It’s a great strike from Charlie Austin and it’s a wonder goal that’s beat us.

“If you take that out, they’ve had a lot of chances and a lot of possession but we were still in the game.

“We’ve been beaten 1-0 and we’ve not really tested them as much as we’d like to.

“I think all the boys are a little bit disappointed because we all feel we could have done a little bit more, so maybe we showed them a little bit too much respect.

“Other people might think it’s a game that we wouldn’t get something out of but I think we go into every game confident.

“We’ve won our last two on the road 1-0 so we came here with a little bit of confidence thinking maybe we could do something and maybe surprise people.

“But we’ve not really done ourselves justice and we’ll look at each other, go back to the drawing board and go again for Tuesday (v Doncaster).”

Stewart added: “We could have tested them a little bit more I think they were comfortable sometimes in the game.

“At times today we didn’t have the belief to get on the ball, to put crosses in and to shoot and it was just kind of a knock-on effect throughout the game.

“That’s why everyone’s disappointed because you look at yourself in the mirror and you think to yourself ‘Did I do enough today?’

“There’s a lot of people that might think ‘I could have done more’ and that goes for us all.

“QPR had a lot of possession but we’ve got to get behind the ball.

“You know when you’re away from home sometimes you’ve got to do that - you’ve got to chase the ball to get it back and when we got the ball we didn’t do enough to stamp our authority on the game and let QPR control it.

“It’s quite disappointing for us to be chasing the ball most of the game but sometimes that happens.”
