KEEPER David Forde says talks to extend his Millwall contract are well underway amid rumoured interest from Scottish giants Celtic.

Forde made two crucial saves in Saturday’s vital 1-0 win against Barnsley to ensure the Lions earned all three points.

The only goal of the game came on 75 minutes via an unfortunate own goal from Tykes defender Scott Wiseman after the Gibraltar international got his bearings wrong and headed into his own net.

But Forde’s pair of impressive stops ensured the Lions took all three points and also highlighted why Celtic may be weighing up a move for the Den favourite as reported last week, claims which the man in question is not reading anything into.

“When you’re playing well you’re always going to attract interest from other clubs,” the Millwall number one said.

“Speculation is different now because I’m more experienced and it makes it a whole lot easier.

“I’m still under contract at Millwall and that’s all I’m caring about and all I'm focussed on at the moment.

“I am in discussions over a new contract and I’m just waiting for the club to get back to me.”

Forde was also quick to point out the backing from Lions supporters throughout his five-year spell in south-east London has left a big impression on him.

“Millwall has been a huge club for me and it’s great to get that reception from the fans before you come out to a game,” he explained.

“I have a lot of respect for them and I think it’s a mutual kind of thing.

“I'm just enjoying my form and concentrating on each game, and that was certainly the case against Barnsley.

“I just wanted to get a win and a clean sheet and it’s on to Leicester now next week.”

Saturday produced the Galway-born stopper’s second clean sheet in less than a week after last Tuesday’s 0-0 friendly draw for Ireland against Poland in Poznan, where he denied European heavyweights Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Blaszczykowski a sniff of goal.

It was Forde’s first appearance under new international manager Martin O’Neill and his assistant Roy Keane, appointments which the Millwall keeper welcomed.

He said: “They’re two big presences and they’re very passionate about the football and Ireland, so it's just great for the country.

“Two English speaking managers is a benefit, especially with their wealth of experience.

“It’s given everyone in the team and everyone in the country a huge lift, and it has been a big coup for the FAI.”
