STEVE Lomas believes an extra little bit of luck going the Lions’ way will mean they can start turning recent good performances into wins.
It looked like Millwall were going to bring Burnley back down to earth with a bump on Saturday as they found themselves 2-0 up inside 38 minutes thanks to goals from Scott McDonald and Danny Shittu.
But Sam Vokes had Burnley back in it almost immediately and a disappointing second half own goal from Shaun Lowry meant the Lions had to settle for the point.
Manager Lomas said: “I suppose when you go two goals up it’s such a delicate scoreline and we really wanted to get to half-time 2-0 up.
“The goal has a little bit of misfortune as it’s a cross in from out wide and it actually cannons off Shane Lowry’s shoulder and pops right up for Sam Vokes to head in.
“I can’t really blame anything but a little bit of misfortune from our point of view, but the second goal was poor and we need to defend better.
“We didn’t and paid the price for it.”
He added: “The lads are all disappointed, but the level of performance over the last three games has been very good but for small margins.
“We need a little bit of luck or a few decisions to go our way which we haven’t really been getting but we know we’re not far away.
“It was a very competitive Championship game and that’s what we all want to see.”
The Lions were dealt a major blow early on as Scott Malone hobbled off with what looked to be a serious knee injury.
Malone had been in great form this season and it had even been suggested that scouts had been sent to track the midfielder’s performances.
But the left-back’s afternoon lasted just seven minutes as he landed awkwardly following a tackle.
Malone tried to continue for the Lions but the pain got the better of the left-back and he was replaced by Lowry.
Shaun Derry also limped out of the game on 57 minutes, but thankfully his injury looked like a knock rather than a serious one.
“I think Shaun will be OK but I’m a little bit worried about Scott to be honest,” revealed Lomas.
“It’s a knee injury but to what extent we won’t know until Monday.
“But he’s on crutches at the moment and we’re genuinely concerned it might be a bad one.
“It’s been the same story all season.
“That’s the little bit of luck you need as a club and as a manager you want to be able to get some continuity in your team selection.
“I think we’ve named a team twice all season the same and that’s after 14 games, so we’re constantly having to change personnel and it’s hard to get that continuity on a regular basis.”
