Murray defies odds at Brands Hatch
3:54pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in Sport
NIALL Murray clinched victory in the 42nd Formula Ford festival last weekend at Brands Hatch after battling hard against both a large entry and tricky conditions.
As is traditional, the festival closed with a 20-lap final, with Kent-engined cars headlining the premier class for the first time since 1992.
An early safety car period ensured that the pack remained in close quarters with Noel Dunne leading from Oliver White and Wayne Boyd.
Upon resumption, it was Murray who looked the most likely to threaten the leading trio and he duly delivered when he slid past into the lead on lap 12.
Boyd actually appeared to be the quickest of the leading pack but he was hampered by a short detour through the Paddock Hill gravel trap, dropping him further behind the leader.
He was able to recover second position, however, he didn’t have enough time to truly challenge Murray ahead and was forced to give best.
Oliver White held on behind to take third between Boyd and a jubilant Murray.
The next major event at Brands Hatch is the truck racing and fireworks event on November 2 and 3.
Tickets are available from £18 with free entry for children aged 12 and under.
