Millwall boss demands repeat of QPR display at Reading
STEVE Lomas has demanded his Millwall side repeat their QPR display when they visit another of the relegated Premier League sides this weekend, Reading.
Jermaine Easter’s stoppage time equaliser at The Den last week secured a deserved share of the spoils for the Lions from an entertaining encounter with the Hoops.
But the manager reckons his side can’t afford to rest on their laurels, especially on the back of two heavy away defeats on the road at Birmingham (4-1) and Bournemouth (5-2).
“That’s the challenge for us as a group – can we replicate our intensity and quality we showed against QPR against a very good Reading team away from home where we don’t have our crowd giving us a massive lift we had last Saturday,” said Lomas.
“I don’t think our away form is down to any one thing.
“The Birmingham game was definitely a lull after the Leeds result where there was maybe a bit of complacency.
“At Bournemouth having a man sent off didn’t help but we played well against Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday.
“Now it is about making sure we replicate the performance we gave against QPR at a place where it is going to be tough.
“Reading are a good team, make no mistake about it. We won’t go away and win games of football if we don’t perform.
“If we play badly we won’t, so that’s the challenge to the lads – can they replicate what they did against QPR?
“Every game is tough but I think with the teams who have come down from the Premier League they’ve got that extra quality of player you would expect with bigger funds available.
“If you aren’t fully on your game, you get hurt.”
