Shooters Hill 15-17 Seaford
4:55pm Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in Sport
SHOOTERS Hill were knocked out in the first round of the Junior Vase after going down narrowly 17-15 at home to Seaford.
Despite their long journey the visitors competed from the start, forcing Shoots into giving away a string of penalties and Seaford were soon three points up.
With Glen Miller joining the fray, Shoots began to rediscover the art of driving the opposition off the ball.
But they could not prevent the visitors breaking through for a converted try leaving the score line 0-10 at half-time.
Seaford grabbed an interception but were stopped by tenacious tackling and Shoots employed the drive to win a penalty, which John Garrett slotted over.
Hooker Paul Stephen scythed through on the left, only to see his chip ahead travel over the dead ball line.
Carl Burnett's run brought Shoots to the 15m mark where they stayed until the Seaford backs hit back and ran through on the right for a converted try.
With the advantage of the slope, Shoots hit back strongly as Miller achieved a pushover try and No 8 Mike Ellis also scored for Garrett to convert.
Shoots were still pressing hard when the final whistle went as they were left to ponder what might have been.
