3:48pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in Sport
BRANDS Hatch has suffered a blow after the German Touring Car (DTM) decided not to host a race in the UK next year.
The championship has staged an annual UK round at the north Kent circuit since 2006 but organizers have now decided to look at new options in 2014 having also pulled the plug on racing at Holland’s Zandvoort circuit after 12 successive years.
Motorsport Vision chief executive Jonathan Palmer this morning confirmed DTM rights holder and promoter ITR had informed Brands Hatch of its decision not to return to the venue next year.
He said: "We have enjoyed hosting DTM at Brands Hatch for eight years but we have agreed with ITR that it's time for the event to move on.
“We wish everyone at ITR well and hope the DTM continues to be a success."
ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht added: “We witnessed great races at these circuits and have to say thank you for the good cooperation.
“In 2014, however, we want turn towards other interesting markets.”
