Shooters Hill 7-17 Old Williamsonians
2:27pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in Sport
A SECOND half recovery by visitors Old Williamsonians did for Shooters Hill on Saturday.
Shoots found themselves locked in a forward battle for the first 35 minutes of the half.
Normally their scrum would have had the upper hand, but the visitors had the edge in size and strength, causing the penalty count to go their way. Shoots defended staunchly, although when they did get possession moves tended to break down.
The home scrum finally produced a drive and loose forward Dave Viney delivered the feed which sent the backs into the corner, where winger Peter Deady scored and converted on half time.
Soon after the restart Williamsonians’ number 13 ran through almost unopposed to level the scores. Needing three substitutions through injury, Shoots continued to fight hard to contain the strong running opposition.
Winger Mayo Soremekin threatened to carve a way through but it was not to be and the visitors finished with two running tries.
Shoots have a break from league duty this weekend to take on Seaford in the Junior Vase.
