SLKPA kick off their winter season
The South London & Kent Pool Alliance started its ninth winter season this week and last season’s Premier Division champions, Rileys Woolwich started with a narrow victory.
They travelled to Bellegrove Social Club A and the home side stunned the champions by taking a 5-1 lead but in the style of champions they battled back to seven all and take the game into a final set decider, which they went on to win and start the defence of their title with an 8-7 victory.
Clive Black, who won all three of his frames in a good spirited match, that could have gone either way, inspired the comeback.
The top two from the summer season played each other as Pickwick were hosts to O’Connors and the runners-up got one over the champions as Pickwick won by 9 frames to 6.
Dean James played some precise pool in his two out three frame wins and Allan Formosa and George Hammond joined him.
Ash Hall remained unbeaten with two out of two, as did Joe Kane for O’Connors and James Sheed made a great clearance after a dry break.
Glenmore Arms A came back from 3-0 down against fellow Premier Division new boys North Heath Social Club to win 9-6.
The comeback was started by Alex Thompson who produced a great pot on the black to seven-ball Brett Crawley in his first of three frame wins and Alan Enever won the next frame in his first of three as well.
David Holpin won his first frame of World Rules pool against veteran Ian Stringer to tie the match at three all then Glenmore won three of the next four frames to go 6-4 up.
The next three frames went either way with North Heath winning two of them before Glenmore took the final two frames to win the match.
In SLKPA Division One the two teams from O’Dowds played each other with the A team being victorious over the B team, in their first SLKPA match by 11 frames to 4.
The first set was quite close with the A team just edging it 3-2 but their experience showed in the next two sets winning them both by 4 frames to 1.
Alan Dolan, Clive Forrest and Kerry Wyatt all won their three frames on the night and Shailash Vekaria came out with some credit for the B team as he won three of their four frames.
New Eltham Social Club go into equal second place after beating three man Glenmore Arms II 10-5.
New Eltham’s Tony Frost and Captain Steve Unwin both recorded three frame wins with the captain producing a brilliant double on his last colour to land perfectly on the black in one of his wins.
The result could have been a lot worse for Glenmore had their Captain, Jason Brunton not won all three of his frames.
New Eltham were joined by Pickwick Academicals in second place with a 10-5 win over White Hart.
Graham Levingbird played three fantastic frames, winning each of them, as did Chris Bracey for the Academicals.
Bellegrove Social Club B also recorded a 10-5 win, over Fox under the Hill, to go into second place.
In the final game of the division Summerfield took a 6-2 lead over new team Royal Oak Addicks but they went on to win the next seven frames on the bounce to win the match 9-6.
Roy Legget started the amazing comeback with two out of two and Grant Bedford recorded the same score against his old team.
