Cranbrook 71-10 Shooters Hill
4:24pm Tuesday 1st October 2013 in Sport
SHOOTERS Hill were well beaten by a young Cranbrook side on Saturday.
In two very different halves, Cranbrook nudged ahead 10-3 on 20 minutes.
Shoots dug in and were awarded a penalty after Henry Sivell was taken out off the ball.
Pete Deady’s shot at goal was just wide but the visitors were making their mark and were awarded another penalty on 35 minutes.
Harry Barham kicked to touch, but Shoots then lost their own lineout which allowed Cranbrook’s young backs a chance to run at them and a good backs move resulted in another try under the posts.
With two minutes remaining of the first half, Cranbrook piled on the pressure and scored yet another first half try 24-3 before the ref blew.
Shoots were forced to make some changes at half-time, Gareth Cross, who had had a good game at No 10, coming off due to injury and Kelvin Munroe, married for just one day, on as a replacement.
Cranbrook started the second half as they ended the first with a succession of tries, taking the score to 57-3.
Shoots tried to slow the game down and get back into Cranbrook’s half but their efforts were further frustrated, Alex Coates harshly sin-binned for a high tackle.
Down to 14-men, Shoots battled on against an ever rampant Cranbrook and to their credit, were rewarded as Pete Evans scored under the posts and Deady converted.
However, the hosts ran in a further two converted tries to complete the rout.
