Powell still puzzled by woeful Millwall record
The Lions maintained their impressive run of results over their neighbours thanks to Scott McDonald’s deflected first half effort, leaving Powell still searching for his first south London derby victory as boss over either Millwall or Crystal palace.
“All I can talk about is since I’ve been here but I know the record has been for a while against Millwall, which has astounded me really and I wish I could put my finger on it,” the Charlton boss said.
“I’m desperate for it to change, of course I am.
“Of course our fans want it to change because it is what it is, it is a better result than them beating another side from up north.
“I take results when they come but you want to beat your local rivals, it is something we do need to change and address.
“We didn’t do ourselves justice end of story last week.
“I’m not going to hide behind anything, we didn’t.
“Why? We let ourselves down, we really did, even though it is two sides who are evenly matched in some respects because they haven’t been in a great place.
“They scored a deflected goal so it goes for them, it doesn’t go for us.
“We didn’t do too much to change that even though I changed the side and put a couple of the lads on to give us that spark which in a bit they did but I can only apologise.”
