MILLWALL skipper Paul Robinson was delighted with last night’s win over Blackpool, a result which lifted the pressure on Steve Lomas and the Lions off the foot of the table.
Blackpool started the night top of the table and were quick out of the blocks, as Tom Ince scored on 16 minutes.
However, Lomas’ side showed real spirit to come from behind, eventually winning 3-1.
Liam Trotter equalised from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, and within the space of a second half minute Nicky Bailey and Steve Morison scored quick-fire goals to hand the Lions a much-needed win.
Robinson said: “It was a big three points all round, I am just delighted with everyone who has put in a lot of hard work.
“It was a lovely feeling to get back starting a league game and it was nice to cap it off with three points.
“Hopefully this gets the season up and running.
“We scored three excellent goals, but most importantly the lads stuck with the task.
“We deserved a bit of luck with the penalty, as we are due a decision.
“Thankfully it got us back in the game, and going into half time it gave the place a lift.”
He added: “In the second half we were excellent.
“Steve Morison made a difference when he came on, his goal was an unbelievable strike, and Nicky Bailey showed great technique on his volley. It was a special night.
“It would have been easy to let heads drop, but we stuck to the task and were deserved winners in the end.
“We were disappointed to concede, they didn’t really break us down, but the most important thing was the way we responded.”
However, the defender was quick to put the result into context.
“It was a big game for the club, we needed to get the season started sooner rather than later,” said Robinson.
“With the derby coming up this weekend we needed to get our home form sorted.
“We want to make it difficult for teams to come here and hopefully today was a big step towards that.
“Every player is aware of how important the Charlton game is to the fans and the club as a whole.
“Local derbies are great games, there will be a great atmosphere but they are important as well.
“We are desperate to put in a performance as a team to get a good result on the day.”
Robinson finished by indicating he was happy with life under Lomas and revealing he was enjoying the change of atmosphere since the new boss joined Millwall.
“The manager has worked hard since he has been here,” he added.
“I hope he savours the three points tonight.
“There has to be a period of transition, it does take time to settle into a new way of working.
“He has a good character and comes across really well.
“Steve is a lot more involved with the banter, an active personality, whereas Kenny would take more of a step back.”
