Medway 3-10 Charlton Park
4:08pm Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Sport
CHARLTON Park began the new campaign with a triumph at old rivals Medway.
But they made the worst possible start to the game from the kick-off when they conceded a penalty and Medway accepted the chance to open the scoring with a successful kick.
Debutant full-back Tom Coad made a number of good breaks out of defence and it was he who enabled Charlton to take the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Following a break from Rob Saunderson and good interchange of passes, Coad was on hand to take the final pass and outstrip the Medway defence to score the opening try under the posts to aid Tom Amzaleg’s successful conversion.
It was slightly against the run of play Charlton extended their lead in the second half with Amzaleg's penalty.
And despite Medway’s best efforts, Charlton maintained their lead to run out winners.
