KWAN Browne has joined the coaching staff at Bexleyheath & Belvedere Hockey Club (BBHC).

BBHC men’s first team currently plays in the Kent & Sussex regional league Division One and this year will be chasing promotion to South Premier Division Two.

Browne won the prestigious England Hockey performance coach of the year last month and has recently been appointed coaching consultant for England Hockey.

Last year he led Canterbury HC to third place in the top flight.

Although Browne will still be coaching at Canterbury, he will lead the reinvigoration of BBHC who are looking for promotion across all the men’s teams in this new season.

As a level four coach, Browne will work with the existing BBHC coaching team, which includes a level three coach, several level two coaches and a specialist goalkeeping coach, in the development and structure of the men’s weekly training sessions.

BBHC chairman Adrian Prong said: “Our club is incredibly excited to have a coach of Kwan's quality and experience help our players and coaches’ development.

“Kwan is a fantastic player having won just about everything you can in England Hockey and skippered his country Trinidad and Tobago, but his coaching is immense.

“He has so many plaudits and what he has done for Canterbury is unbeatable. “

Prong added: “We are looking forward to the new season at BBHC very much and hopefully Kwan can have the same sort of influence on some of our younger players as he did on Ashley Jackson, England and Team GB's star player.

“This will be a great opportunity to demonstrate the quality of hockey in this part of London and Kent too.”
