Bromley 4-0 Whitehawk
3:42pm Wednesday 21st August 2013 in Sport
A THREE goal blitz in nine first half minutes ensured Bromley cruised to an emphatic victory over newly-promoted Whitehawk FC at Hayes Lane.
In their first home fixture of the new campaign, the Lillywhites dominated from start to finish and might have gone ahead after just three minutes.
Bradley Goldberg forced Tom Cadmore into a mistake on the byline to square a pass back to Pierre Joseph-Dubois who shot narrowly wide.
The visitors went close after 13 minutes when Joe Keehan headed on a long free-kick but Danny Mills coming in at the far post just failed to get a touch.
Steven Smith forced his way through one minute later to unleash a vicious 30-yard shot which keeper Chris Winterton could only parry away before Charlie Henry cleared for a corner.
From Elliot Buchanan’s delivery, Rob Swaine rose highest to plant a firm header into the roof of the net.
The hosts doubled the score on 21 minutes.
Winterton tipped around a defender’s mis-cued clearance and Jay May powerfully headed home from around 10 yards from the resultant corner.
Three minutes later it became 3-0.
Brendan Kiernan, May and Goldberg combined to set Kiernan clear on the right and his cross was volleyed home by Goldberg, giving Winterton no chance.
As half-time approached, Bromley’s keeper Lewis Carey was called upon to make his first stop of the evening when he saved Tommy Fraser’s header and then almost immediately pushed upwards James Fraser’s header from Mills’ free-kick.
Neither side created very much at the start of the second half until a couple of substitutions around the hour mark sparked new life into the proceedings.
May saw his 25-yard drive tipped over by Winterton and from Kiernan’s corner Bromley’s leading scorer last season Joseph-Dubois,bundled the ball over the line for his side’s fourth goal in the 65th minute.
Kiernan himself went close shortly afterwards, shooting over from distance before the game petered out.
However, in the last minute Whitehawk briefly threatened with Michael Boateng shooting wide and Carey palming away substitute David De Silva’s curling free-kick.
