Sidcup boxer prepared for biggest challenge yet
2:26pm Wednesday 21st August 2013 in Sport
SIDCUP middleweight boxing prospect Tom Dolan says he is totally focussed on beating rival Michael Woolsey next month in the biggest contest of his career.
The 22-year-old will step through the ropes on September 14 at the Epsom racecourse to challenge Woolsey for the vacant Queensbury Boxing League’s novice middleweight title in front of the British Eurosport cameras.
After racking up several impressive performances in the division to earn his shot at the title, Dolan is confident his fitness and skills will be at their peak when he enters the contest.
Dolan was last in action back in June when he edged out London’s Malik Kahlis on the undercard of the league’s big summer show at the racecourse.
And the Sidcup man, who runs his own haulage company, has been taking his training regime to a new level in his bid for success.
“My preparations for this fight have been taking to a whole new level, and I’m feeling really confident about the fight,” he said.
“During the build up to the fight I’ve been working on some old school training techniques to really get my fitness levels up.
“There has been a real focus on getting in lots of sparring to sharpen things up, so I’m feeling great right now.
“I don’t really know too much about Woolsey but all I can do is focus on what I need to do and train as hard as I possibly can.
“That’s what I’ve been working on.
“Come fight night I believe I’m going to be ready for whatever he brings.”
Dolan’s title showdown will feature on the packed undercard of boxing headlined by the British light middleweight showdown between Orpington’s unbeaten Dan Maguire and fellow challenger Nathan Leeson.
