Rebels remain unbeaten
After fourteen matches of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance Tier Two West, the division leaders, Rileys Rebels are still unbeaten after their 2-1 & 9-6 victory over second placed Beech Tree Nuthouse.
It was a hard fought match, which saw the Nuthouse take the first set 3-2, and the second set was poised at 2-2 when Rebels captain, Trevor Biggs faced Dave Sparey.
From the break it looked as though Sparey was on a break and dish but he lost position and the Rebels captain cleared his colours and the black to steal the frame and the set, to level the scores at one set all and five frames all.
Rebels only lost one more frame taking the final set 4-1 to remain unbeaten for the season and with their final match against bottom team Rileys Unstoppables it looks as though the Rebels may be changing their name to the Invincibles.
At the other end of the scale Unstoppables haven’t won a game all season but they did manage to win a set this week against Pickwick Academicals with the final score 2-1 & 9-6.
Saying that three players, Sam Mossom, Ed Green and John Hurd did find some form this week winning two of their three frames to show some promise for next season.
Kings Arms kept up their winning ways with a 2-1 & 10-5 victory over Antigallican.
They edged the first set 3-2 but won all five frames in the second set to seal the win before going down in the final set 3-2.
Les Ryan was the only unbeaten player on the night winning both of his frames.
With the top two teams out of action in SLKPA’s Tier Two East, we turn our attention to the chasing pack and Glenmore Arms II getting a good win against White Hart by 3 sets to 0 and 11 frames to 4.
Jason Brunton and Shane Burnett were the star performers for Glenmore, both winning all three of their frames.
It’s been a hard first season for White Hart but hopefully they can find the positives and look forward to next season.
Despite the win Glenmore, slip one place in the table as New Eltham Social Club beat Bellegrove Social Club B 2-1 & 10-5.
Miro Cujic benefitted from Bellegrove’s four-man team with two walkover wins before nailing a tight tactical battle to effectively finish on three out of three for the night.
Jim Woodbridge was also unbeaten winning both his frames and Chris Unwin won his two frames with stunning clearances.
