A NEW Dartford judo club secured medals in their first ever competition.
United Judo Club sent three members to the Worthing Open Red Belt Rumble and returned home with two bronzes and one silver.
Lauren Corbett endured a four hour wait for her first fight but the 14-year-old’s patience was rewarded when she held down a much stronger girl who was able to push the United member off and counter the move by holding her down.
Lauren then went on to win her next two fights to secure silver.
Her younger brother Max, aged eight, competition saw him throw Osoto-otoshi, an outer reaping throw which scored the highest score possible, Ippon, and 10 points.
He repeated the trick in his second fight and eventually ended up with a bronze medal for his efforts.
Jaimie Clark, 11, had to wait five hours before his chance to appear on the mat. Fighting more experienced players, he found most of his fighting time was spent defending but still managed to bring home a bronze.
United head coach Dave Quinn said: “I’m very proud of their new skills, especially as they were fighting in front of around 200 people, a daunting task for any youngster.”
